MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA
Dr. B.C. Roy National Award Fund
The Medical Council of India instituted Dr. B.C.
Roy National Award Fund in 1962 to perpetuate his memory. "The
Fund" is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860.
"The Fund" invites nominations under the following
categories as provided under the Memorandum of Association of the
Society. The Award is of the value of Rs.1,00,000/- and a Silver
Salver in each of the following categories.
- Statesmanship of the Highest Order in our country
- Medical man-cum-Statesman.
- Eminent Medical Person.
- Eminent person in Philosophy
- Eminent person in Arts.
Nominations forwarded through the respective
Chief Minister, Chancellor or Vice Chancellor of Universities,
Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Directors, viz.
I.C.M.R.,C.S.I.R., I.C.A.R., Deans of the Faculty of Medicine,
National Organisations of the Profession, Recognised Engineering
Institutes, Indian Science Congress, Member of the Medical Council
of India etc., alongwith brief reasons for making such
recommendations should be set out by the person concerned. Special
priority in making the Award shall be accorded to the objectives of
granting an award to a Medical man-cum-Statesman, a person of
nationwide eminence and popularity and who has contributed a great
deal of service to the nation in different spheres of activity. The
award may be made to individual or to an institution.
The nomination should be supported by the
following: -
- 30 copies of curriculum vitae of the candidate and full
address of communication.
- A statement of the work, achievement, accomplishment or
performance on which the claim to the award is based.
- One set of publications.
- A reasoned justification for the nomination.
- Consent of nominee.
Other Awards are:-
1. Oration - Under Dr. B.C. Roy National Award Fund.
The value of the oration award is Rs. 15,000/-
and Medal Nomination are invited for consideration for this award.
Nominations containing following can be made by the colleagues and
teachers of candidates, Civic leaders, Professional Societies or
Established experts in various industries or other fields. The
nominee should not be related either by blood, marriage or adoption
to the person making the nomination provided that such a person has
not played any direct part in the nominee's work.
- Justification for Nomination.
- Thirty five copies of full bio-data and address for
correspondence.
- Consent of Nominee.
- List of publications.
- One set of publications.
- Topic of Oration.
The nomination should mention clearly, the
category under which it is to be considered.
There are no special nomination form for this
purpose. One person will be eligible to make one nomination only.
Indian Nationals are only eligible for the award.
2. Dr. B.C. Roy National Award - To recognize the best talents in
encouraging the Development of specialities in Different branches in
Medicine.
The Management Committee of the Dr. B.C. Roy
National Award Fund registered under the Societies Registration Act,
XXI of 1860, has decided to give award in recognition, of the best
talents in encouraging the Development of Specialities in different
branches of Medicine and for this purpose Nominations are invited.
The value of each award is Rs.15,000/- and a Medal. Nominations
containing the following can be made by the colleagues and teachers
of candidates, Civic leaders, Professional Societies or Established
Experts in various industries or other fields. The Nominee should
not be related either by blood, marriage or adoption to the person
making the nomination provided that such a person has not played any
direct part in the nominee's work.

3. Dr. B.C. Roy National Award to recognize the merit of an
Eminent Medical Teachers.
Management Committee of the Dr. B.C. Roy National
Award Fund registered under the Societies Registration Act. XXI of
1860, has decided to give award to Eminent teachers in different
specialities. The value of the award is Rs. 15,000/- and a medal for
each awardees. Nominations containing the following can be made by
the colleagues and teachers of candidates, Civic leaders,
Professional Societies or established expert in various industries
or other fields. The Nominee should not be related either by blood,
marriage or adoption to the person making the nomination provided
that such a person has not played any direct part in the nominee's
work.

4. Dr. B.C. Roy National Award - to recognize the
outstanding service in the field of Socio-Medical Relief.
The Management Committee of the Dr. B.C. Roy
National Award Fund registered under the Societies Registration Act,
XXI of 1860, has decided to give award in recognition of the
outstanding service in the field of Socio-Medical Relief and in the
establishment of the Medical organisations and Medical institutions.
The value of the award is Rs. 15,000/- and a Medal. It has further
been decided that services rendered towards leprosy, Blindness,
Physically handicapped, relief during natural calamities, Community
Health, Malaria, Family Planning and Nutrition will also fall under
the category of Socio-Medical Relief. Nominations containing the
following can be made by the colleagues and teachers of candidates,
Civic leaders, Professional Societies or Established experts in
various industries or other fields. The nominee should not be
related either by blood, marriage or adoption to the person making
the nomination provided that such a person has not played any direct
part in the nominee's work.

5. Dr. B.C. Roy Research Projects - To give aid
or Assistance to Research Project.
The Management Committee of Dr. B.C. Roy National
Award Fund at its meeting held on 29.6.95 decided to give aid or
assistance to deserving research projects for a period of two years
to those institutions/persons who are carrying on or intend to carry
out research in medical field. The Management Committee further
decided that suitable projects may be invited from all the Medical
Colleges/Individuals.
